1. Setting Spray

Setting spray will prevent transfer, color shifting, fading, and creasing. I use the example of a raincoat when I talk about setting spray. If you were to have a droplet of water run down your face, the polymers in the setting spray will let that droplet run off of your face, just as a raincoat would. Without the setting spray, the water droplet would dissipate into your makeup look (whether it’s liquid, cream or powder based) instead of run off. My favorite is the Skindinavia Bridal 24 hour setting spray. One of my favorite bridal stories is a Bride texting me the day after her wedding telling me that her groom had smashed cake all over her face during the cake cutting. After gently wiping it off, her makeup was still absolutely perfect. Not all setting sprays are created equal. I won't bore you with the science, but the ingredients of Skindinavia are what make it the best on the market!

2. Makeup Forever Aqua Seal

This product converts your favorite makeup products into a waterproof formula. It is lightweight, will intensify pigments, and create a long lasting result. Apply a drop of Aqua Seal to your makeup brush one at a time until your brush is saturated with liquid. Use the wet brush to apply any powder products. For liquid products, put desired amount of product onto a separate pan, add one drop of Aqua seal directly into your product, and mix.

3. Rouge Dior Forever Lipstick

This new product is the first transfer-proof Dior lipstick in a bullet format and ensures up to 16 hours of wear. Apply directly on lips and let dry for 3 minutes to optimally set the color. My favorite Bridal shade is “505 Forever Sensual" because it is the perfect, signature Bridal nude color. Plus, it is always a good idea to treat yourself on your wedding day, and Dior is always an amazing treat!

4. Clinique High Impact Easy Liquid Eyeliner

This eyeliner comes in black and brown. I love using both shades and choose which I use depending on my Bridal client’s preference. It is appropriate for sensitive eyes, contact lens wearers, and is 24-hour smudge and budge-resistant wear. For a thin line use the pen's narrow tip. For a thicker line, lay the pen flat.

5. Finishing Powder

Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Finish. This micro powder will smooth and blur the appearance of fine lines and imperfections while keeping your complexion even all day long. Using a powder brush, apply the airbrush flawless finishing powder around the nose, T-zone and any other oily areas that need to be mattified. This product comes in four shades; (1) fair to very fair, (2) medium to medium deep, (3) tan to deep tan, (4) deep to very deep.

Are there any other tips or techniques for making makeup last through sweat and tears?

As a professional makeup artist, I use all waterproof products on my brides. I set the makeup looks with powders and setting sprays, and use transfer proof products as well! Examples of products that you can buy that are waterproof: mascara, eyeliner, setting spray. Examples of products you can buy that are transferproof: foundation, lipstick, lip liner, setting powders, setting sprays. Products that don’t fall into either of those categories can be “set” with setting spray to make them long lasting.

What's the difference between waterproof and water resistant?

Water resistant is able to resist the penetration of water to a certain degree. Waterproof does not allow water to penetrate. This is important to know because tears can happen on a wedding day so you’ll need true waterproof products!

How do you prevent makeup transferring to clothes, especially when wearing white?

The best way to prevent makeup transfer is setting spray! Setting spray creates a barrier wherever used (face, neck, chest) to ensure a transfer proof makeup look! My favorite setting spray for Brides is the Skindinavia Bridal 24 hour setting spray.
